It’s the end of June, and that means it’s time to share the sixth block in the Barn Star Sampler Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop. This quilt along uses the Barn Star Sampler book by Shelley Cavanna. All together there are 20 different blocks making up the final quilt. It’s a fairly large quilt at 80.5″ x 100.5″ and is large enough to fit a queen sized bed. I’m still working out how I can possibly make it a little larger to fit a king by adding extra star blocks or a border of some sort.

For this block, you make two of the same pattern, but different fabrics. I kept my color placement similar.
The combination of Renew and Spring Chicken fabric collections by Sweetwater Fabrics is just darling. The color schemes work well together with similar pink, grey, yellow, and greens.
The complexity of the barn star quilt blocks might be a little intimidating at first. But if you take your time and really look at the blocks, they aren’t complicated to make. They are made up of mostly squares and rectangles with a variety of corner squares or half square triangles. The Barn Star Sampler book is a good opportunity to practice making a variety of blocks with out a lot of different techniques.
Just a couple more large quilt blocks to go and then there a lot of smaller ones. I really do enjoy making these large blocks. They make a big impact. Until next month!
