Completing the Designer Mystery 2023 Quilt with the Finishing Kit
The finishing kit for the Designer Mystery 2023 quilt along was a blend of the blue, green, and white fabrics of the Sunnyside fabric collection. The pattern was made up of flying geese, double flying geese, and sashing strips arranged in such a way to give the effect of a secondary block appearing between the 12 monthly blocks of the quilt along. Here’s a step-by-step look at how I brought it all together:
- Piecing the Blocks Together: After completing all 12 blocks, the next step was to add the sashing pieces from the finishing kit. The finishing kit provided clear instructions (as all Fat Quarter Shop patterns do!), making it easy to arrange the blocks in the perfect layout.
- Adding the Borders: The borders included in the finishing kit added the perfect frame to the quilt. They were cut and matched the blocks blue background fabric of the finishing kit, enhancing the overall design.
- Quilting with the Orange Dream Pantograph: To give my quilt a professional finish, I used the Orange Dream pantograph from Longarm League. This design added a touch of elegance and complemented the quilt’s patterns beautifully.
The Special Touch with the Backing Kit
One of the highlights of this quilt is the backing kit, which included an exclusive quilt label.
This personalized touch not only adds to the quilt’s uniqueness but also makes it a cherished heirloom. The backing fabric was of a lovely floral print from the Sunnyside collection, ensuring the quilt is as lovely on the back as it is on the front.
