It’s June, and that means it’s a new start for the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Quilt Along. Each month, participants receive a package of fabric and a quilt pattern for the block of the month. Each month’s block is designed by a different quilter in the industry. This month is the Dahlia quilt block.

There are two optional items you can purchase to complete your Designer Mystery Quilt. First, is the optional finishing kit which comes with a beautifully designed storage box and enough fabric to make coordinating blocks to finish the quilt top as designed. There is also an optional backing kit which comes with a fabric from the line that matches the quilt top and a special quilt label.
This is my third year participating in the Fat Quarter Shop’s Designer Mystery Quilt. I was so excited to see that this year it featured the Sunnyside fabric collection by Camille Roskelley. I’m a big Camille fan and love all of her fabric collections with Moda Fabrics.
The pattern for month one was also designed by Camille. The block is pretty simple to assemble with four patches for the corners and simple corner squares for some of the pieces.
Fat Quarter Shop is so generous with their kits, making it possible to starch your fabric if you choose (I almost always do!) and also still have a lot of left over fabric which is great if you make a cutting mistake or to add to the extras to your scrap stash. This year Fat Quarter Shop is supplying us with cutting instructions to make smaller sizes of the same block in their dedicated Facebook group. You aren’t guaranteed to have enough extra to make both the 6 inch and 3 inch quilt blocks, but this month there was more than enough.
This block came together so fast by chain piecing the four patch corners and adding the corner squares to the side pieces also by chain piecing.
The smaller the blocks got the more carefully I had to press to make the bulk of the seams flatter. The 3 inch block is so sweet!
I hope you enjoy this peek of the Designer Mystery Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop. The block kits for this year are sold out, but at the end of the quilt along you will be able to purchase the pattern set. You can find previous years pattern sets sold on Fat Quarter Shop’s website.
Happy Quilting!
