Blockheads 5.2 Block 5
Moda Blockheads 5 Group 2, Block 5 is the Glimmer block designed by Janet Clare.
Block 5 is made with flying geese sides and a square in a square center block. I used the background fabric that I’ve used throughout for the edge, corners, and center. I placed the white fabric along the edges in the flying geese arrows to give nice contrast. This also allowed me to use the lighter blue fabric from the collection for star points off the square in a square center and not lose that print to the business of my background fabric.

For this quilt along I am using Songbook fabrics by Fancy That Design House and am making the 12 inch quilt blocks.
Moda Blockheads 5.2 Block 5 Assembly
The Moda instructions for this block again includes instructions for the no waste flying geese method. I don’t typically use this way of making my flying geese, so I did a little math and made them the normal way for me. This way starts with a rectangle that measures 2.5″ by 4.5″ and attaching 2.5″ squares to each corner using the sew and flip method. This gives you a flying geese unit that measures 2.5″ x 4.5″ unfinished.
Glimmer Quilt Block
The Glimmer quilt block is definitely a simple block with 8 flying geese, square corners, and a square in a square center.
As with all of the star blocks we’ve had so far with Blockheads 5, color placement on this block can be used to create a completely different look.
Moda Blockheads 5 Progress
I am so happy with how my blocks look in the Songbook collection by Fancy That Design House. So far I have kept my blocks from the first group until the end of Moda Blockheads 5 so that I can decide if I’d like to make 1 large project or a couple smaller ones.
