Have you heard of the Moonbeams Quilt Along? It is this year’s charity quilt along by Fat Quarter Shop to raise funds for Make A Wish! Every year, Fat Quarter Shop hosts a charity quilt along by giving away a free pattern each month to make a stunning final quilt. In an effort to raise funds for Make a Wish, however, Fat Quarter Shop does ask for a donation there in lieu of payment for the pattern. And I highly encourage you to give what you can to this amazing organization!

This year, the Moonbeams quilt, was designed to use the Strawberry Lemonade fabric collection by Sherri and Chelsi. There is a quilt kit to accompany the quilt along that comes in a stunning storage box. Strawberry Lemonade is a beautiful fabric collection that has been very popular with quilters. However, this quilt can be made with any fabric collection, or even scraps from your stash!
Moonbeams Month 2 – The Ohio Star Blocks
The month 2 pattern for Moonbeams is the Ohio Star Block pattern. The final quilt calls for four of the Ohio Star quilt blocks. The Ohio Star block is a classic quilt block, typically made in a nine patch arrangement with four hour glass blocks setting off a contrasting center square.
The Ohio Star for the Moonbeams quilt is a little different though. Two opposite corners have a pieced half log cabin block in them. This gives the star a more radiant appearance.

The Moonbeams quilt along also has a companion cross stitch pattern that is a look-a-like of the birds and flowers of the quilt! It will be so sweet to decorate with the finished cross stitch alongside the finished quilt later on. The second month’s pattern release for the Moonbeams cross stitch is the upper left quadrant . I’m using the called for 14 count Navy Aida and the called for floss.
