The Pineapple block is the fourth block in the Petit Four Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop. For this quilt along I am using scrap fabrics from the Beautiful Day fabric collection by Corey Yoder.

Petit Four Quilt Along
The Petit Four quilt along is being hosted by Fat Quarter Shop to showcase their new 4 inch foundation paper pads. The pads come in a collection of the following quilt blocks
- Courthouse Steps Quilt Blocks
- Economy Quilt Blocks
- Log Cabin Quilt Blocks
- Pineapple Quilt Blocks
- Snail Trail Quilt Blocks
- Sparkle Star Quilt blocks
Each of the quilt blocks is only 4 inches finished, so the pieces needed for each section are small. This makes it the perfect project for scraps in your fabric stash. The finished quilt is 32.5 inches square.
I love participating in quilt alongs with Fat Quarter Shop because it challenges me to try different techniques. You also are able keep up with others progress on social media by following their hashtag #petitfourQAL. Kimberly will also periodically share her progress on her Friday livestreams on their YouTube Channel.
Fabric Selection
Similar to the previous month’s blocks, I chose one color and one white background for each of my 8 Pineapple blocks. I like the two tone look of the blocks. This keeps the individual blocks from getting to visually busy, and really lets them shine in their tiny glory. The finished quilt will also be less busy with the blocks not being completely scrappy.
The Intricacy of the Pineapple Blocks
The Pineapple block is a more intricate block with many pieces.āStarting with a square in the center, strips are added on the alternating bias and edges to work your way outward.āThis block is a little more challenging, but is made much easier with the foundation paper.āIt becomes very similar to a paint by number with the alternating strips of white fabric and then print fabrics.ā
Completed Pineapple Blocks
The eight Pineapple quilt blocks for this month join my previously finished blocks: Log Cabin, Economy, and Courthouse Steps. I made all of them in a variety of colors I had of Beautiful Day fabrics. They came out perfectly sized since they use the foundation paper and you trim them down to the precise size at the end. I kept the foundation paper attached to the back of the blocks to keep them crisp until I have all of the remaining quilt blocks made for the Petit Four Quilt Along.
The Petit Four Quilt Along
Join me again next month when I will share the Snail Trail quilt blocks for the Petit Four Quilt Along.
