Welcome to my post about my quilting and cross stitch plans for 2025 crafting journey! This year, I’m making it my mission to focus on “Using What I Have.” With an overflowing stash of quilt kits, fabric bundles, and unfinished projects, I’m excited to reduce clutter and complete projects that have been waiting for their moment to shine. Let’s dive into my plans for quilting and cross stitch, and how I intend to make this year both productive and meaningful.

Quilt Kits: Completing What’s Already in the Stash
Over the years, I’ve collected numerous quilt kits, each one purchased with excitement but left unfinished as new projects came along. These kits range from full-sized quilts to smaller projects from subscription boxes. My goal for 2025 is to prioritize these projects, including 10 months of adorable Riley Blake door banner kits I received in a subscription box. Each banner represents a missed opportunity to create something seasonal and cheerful, so I’m determined to tackle them this year.
Using Leftover Fabrics Creatively
One of my biggest challenges is the abundance of leftover fabrics from completed quilt kits and past quilt alongs. These scraps are often coordinated and high-quality—too good to let sit in my scrap bin. For 2025, I’ve planned several projects to use these leftovers creatively:
- Quilts from Coordinated Scraps: Leftover Lighthearted fabrics from the Shine Bright Sampler quilt along will be used to make the Brightly quilt by Cluck Cluck Sew. This pattern is perfect for using up every bit of fabric and creating a stunning new quilt.
- Smaller Projects: If there isn’t enough fabric for a quilt, I’ll make table runners, pillows, or even pieced backings for other quilts.
I’ve also been exploring scrap-friendly patterns to help reduce my stash. The goal is to transform the overwhelming pile of leftovers into beautiful, functional items.
Continuing Quilt Alongs into 2025
I’m currently participating in three quilt alongs, all of which will carry into 2025:
- Designer Mystery 2024 Quilt Along: This project wraps up in June. While I’ve loved participating for several years, I’ve decided to skip the 2025 edition to focus on using my stash.
- Dragon Fruit Quilt Along: This vibrant quilt uses Tula Pink fabrics and foundation paper piecing, and I’m excited to see it come together.
- 100 Acre Wood Quilt Along: Inspired by Winnie the Pooh, this quilt features characters from the 100 Acre Wood and is pure joy to work on.
I also plan to revisit and complete projects I’ve set aside, like the Moda Blockheads 5 quilt blocks and my string quilt using leftover Tula Pink fabric strips. These projects deserve to be finished and enjoyed!

Cross Stitch Plans for 2025
Cross stitch remains a passion of mine, and this year I’m focusing on fully finishing my completed pieces. Over the years, I’ve accumulated a stack of finished cross stitch projects that need to be framed or mounted. My plan includes:
- Using my woodworking skills and scrap wood to create custom frames that match my home’s decor.
- Incorporating these pieces into my seasonal and year-round decorations.
In addition, I’ll work on using cross stitch patterns and floss that I already own, ensuring that every stitch counts toward using my stash.
Why This Goal of Using What I Have Matters
There are so many reasons why focusing on my stash matters this year:
- Financial Savings: By using what I already have, I’ll save money and only purchase essentials like backing or binding fabrics.
- Organization: Reducing my stash will help declutter my craft space and make it easier to find what I need.
- Creativity and Gratitude: Working with materials I’ve collected over the years reminds me why I loved them in the first place.
Local Quilt Club Participation
In 2025, I’ll continue participating in my local quilt shop’s club, which for 2025 is using Villa Rosa patterns. These monthly projects will give me a chance to dive into my stash and find fabrics that I can use up. I’m excited to see how much of my existing fabric I can use for these projects.
Final Thoughts and Encouragement
I’m thrilled about the possibilities this year holds. By focusing on “Using What I Have,” I hope to inspire others to join me in making the most of their own stashes. Thank you for sharing your quilting and cross stitch plans for 2025! Could you possibly share the Villa Rose quilt designs (or info from your local quilt shop), that are planned for the coming year? Like you, I think this would be a fun way to use up stash fabrics.

Certainly! For the month of January we have the Winter Branches pattern and the Snow Goose pattern. For February we have the Smitten pattern and the Penny Candy pattern. Those are the only two months we have so far. My local quilt shop that is doing this is Clothesline Creations in Middlebury, Indiana. We “subscribe” to the club for 6 months at a time and that gets us the two patterns per month. We meet the first Saturday of the month but since we aren’t meeting in January, we got the first two months right away. Then in February we will get the March patterns etc. I think it’ll be a great use for stash fabrics this year!
