Sewing Machines
Juki TL 2010Q Sewing Machine – This is the workhorse of my sewing studio. I have the Platinum edition of this model. It is a straight stitch only machine. All mechanical, fast, and straight. If I had to pick one machine, this would be it!
Janome 9450 QCP – Similar to my computerized machine. I have an older version (8900QCP). This is the machine I use for anything other than a straight stitch. Very reliable machine with lots of features.
Long Arm Machine
Handi Quilter Forte – a 24 inch throat space and a 12 foot frame makes this machine capable of handling even king sized quilts. I chose to purchase a Handi Quilter because it was the most user friendly machine I looked at and the company puts out a ton of tutorials and information to help their users learn.
ProStitcher Computerized Software – This is where my Handi Quilter really shines. The software makes edge to edge and computerized customized quilting possible. From the start, I knew my inability to draw well would frustrate me. Computerized was the way to go for me!
Nearby Notions
Aurifil Thread Cone (color 2000) – 100% cotton thread in 50 wt. is perfect for quilting. I purchase this basic color by the cone instead of by the spool to save money. I use this color for nearly all of my piecing.
Metal Bobbins size L – I prefer the sturdiness of metal bobbins and I have bunch of them that I preload with Aurifil thread so that I’m always ready to change the bobbin and keep going when needed.
Little House Pins – These thin glass head pins have been my favorite pins ever. They are so thin and sharp, that fabric doesn’t get distorted when pinning through multiple layers.
Stash ‘n Store – I keep one of these close by with a few pairs of small scissors, marking tools, and even my extra sewing machine feet so I don’t lose track of them when switching between feet.
Gypsy Thread Cutter – This thread cutter makes quick work of cutting apart chain pieced blocks and pieces.
Bee’s Knees Book Stand – Kept right next to my sewing machine to easy keep my pattern visible and out of the way while I piece.
Diagonal Seam Tape – This handy tape is always on the bed of my sewing machine. I keep an extra roll nearby for whenever it needs replaced. No more marking diagonal lines on small blocks or flying geese.
Clover Seam Ripper – Small and sharp seam ripper for all the oops.
Cutting Table
Creative Grids 24 x 36 Cutting Mat – A double sized cutting mat in blue which is easy on my eyes and looks pretty in my room.
OmniGrid Ruler Rack – A place to store my rulers on my cutting table without knocking them around when they aren’t in use.
Creative Grids 6.5 x 24.5 Ruler – The perfect ruler for cutting down full width of fabric, yardage, and fat quarters.
Creative Grids 6.5 x 12.5 Ruler – My most used ruler in my sewing studio. Perfect size for most things. The 45 degree lines make it perfect for trimming half square triangles and flying geese.
Creative Grids 4.5 x 8.5 Ruler – This ruler is perfect for sub-cutting smaller pieces or trimming up small block pieces.
Olfa Splash Rotary Cutter – I have two of these that have been my trusty rotary cutter of choice for years.
Pressing Table
Oliso Lift Iron – I’ve had this kind of iron so long, I don’t know if I could ever change. The lift feature is so handy.
Wooden Tailor’s Clapper – This unfinished hardwood clapper is placed on a freshly pressed seam and left to cool. The result is a perfectly flat seam!
Flatter Spray – I use this spray on stubborn seams that don’t want to lay flat. Even though I starch most of my fabric, sometimes it just needs a little more encouragement to lay flat. Pineapple grove is my favorite scent.
