Have you heard of the Moonbeams Quilt Along? It is this year’s charity quilt along by Fat Quarter Shop to raise funds for Make A Wish! Every year, Fat Quarter Shop hosts a charity quilt along by giving away a free pattern each month to make a stunning final quilt. In an effort to raise funds for Make a Wish, however, Fat Quarter Shop does ask for a donation there in lieu of payment for the pattern. And I highly encourage you to give what you can to this amazing organization!

This year, the Moonbeams quilt, was designed to use the Strawberry Lemonade fabric collection by Sherri and Chelsi. There is a quilt kit to accompany the quilt along that comes in a stunning storage box. Strawberry Lemonade is a beautiful fabric collection that has been very popular with quilters. However, this quilt can be made with any fabric collection, or even scraps from your stash!
Moonbeams Month 1 – The Dove Blocks
The Moonbeams month 1 pattern is the Dove Block pattern. The final quilt calls for two of the Dove quilt blocks. This block is made up of some creative uses of very beginner techniques. Half square triangles, strip piecing, and sew and flip corners are all used to create a block that depicts a flying dove.
Moonbeams – Companion Cross Stitch
The Moonbeams quilt along also has a companion cross stitch pattern that is a look-a-like of the birds and flowers of the quilt! It will be so sweet to decorate with the finished cross stitch alongside the finished quilt later on. The first month’s pattern release for the Moonbeams cross stitch is the charming little border that will surround the final piece. I was able to stitch the entire border for release 1 in just a couple hours. I’m using the called for 14 count Navy Aida and the called for floss.
Moonbeams Charity Quilt Along
I hope you will join me in making the Moonbeams charity quilt and companion cross stitch. It’s a very unique pattern this year that will make a nice addition to any quilt collection.
Happy Quilting!
