The Star Streams Scrap Quilt Pattern
The Star Streams Scrap Quilt is a delightful free quilt pattern offered by Fat Quarter Shop. You can access the pattern by downloading the PDF from their website. This pattern provides a fantastic opportunity to transform your fabric scraps into a visually striking quilt.
Fabric Selection
For my Star Streams Scrap Quilt, I chose to upcycle the scraps from the Nantucket Summer fabric collection by Camille Roskelley. These remnants were leftover from my project creating the Designer Mystery 2022 quilt, also by Fat Quarter Shop. The vibrant and nautical inspired prints from Nantucket Summer added character and charm to my scrap quilt, making it a vivid and eco-friendly creation.

Block Creation
Four Patch Star Blocks and Step Blocks
Among the various star block variations available in the Star Streams Scrap Quilt pattern, I opted to work with just the Four Patch Star Block and the alternating Step Blocks The choice was based on the simplicity of the cutting process, using 3″ squares for the star points and 2.5″ rectangles and squares for the remaining pieces in both the stair blocks and the four patch star blocks.
Assembling the Blocks:
To create the Four Patch Star Blocks, I used 3″ squares to make two half-square triangles at a time. Afterward, each of these triangles needed to be carefully trimmed down to a 2.5″ unfinished half-square triangle, ensuring precision and consistency in my quilt blocks.
Star Streams Scrap Quilt Layout
After crafting the individual blocks, I arranged them to form the final layout of my Star Streams Scrap Quilt. The quilt features a total of 28 Star Blocks and 28 Step Blocks, resulting in a finished size of 56.6 x 64.5 inches. This layout creates a visually captivating quilt that’s perfect for cozying up or decorating your space.
Backing, Batting, and Quilting
For the quilt’s backing, I selected a stunning grey and cream large floral print from the Dwell collection by Camille Roskelley, maintaining a cohesive theme. To achieve that comfortable, classic quilt feel, I used 80/20 quilters dream batting. The long-arm quilting process was done on a Handiquilter Forte machine, employing the Adena edge-to-edge pantograph from My Creative Stitches. This not only added a beautiful design to the quilt but also ensured its durability and longevity.
Star Streams Quilt Finishing Touches
To complete my quilt, I chose to add a machine binding using a print from the Dwell fabric collection. This step not only added a polished, professional look to the quilt’s edges but also tied in the backing fabric for a harmonious finish.
Creating the Star Streams Scrap Quilt has been an immensely satisfying journey. It’s a testament to the creative potential of using fabric scraps and turning them into a beautiful, eco-conscious masterpiece.
