Stitch Pink 2023 – Adore Quilt

Moda’s Stitch Pink 2023 quilt along began last week. Each year, there is a new box kit with a featured Moda designer’s fabric and quilt pattern. The goal Stitch Pink campaign is to bring attention to breast cancer awareness and to also raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This year the pattern and box kit is “Adore” by Camille Roskelley. This 13 block pattern uses her newly released Lighthearted fabric line.

Stitch Pink 2023: Adore Quilt Along Week 1

Week 1 of the quilt along is piecing the large center quilt block and blocks 1-4. Each of the blocks is made of up a smaller quilt block and surrounded with alternating colors of half square triangles to make star points that make the blocks larger stars.

The Center block is a show stopper star block. I love the large size and the colors of the star is so pretty.

The remaining quilt blocks can be made scrappy with the remaining fabric after the large star half square triangles are cut for the star points on each block. I followed the designers fabric choices for a majority of my quilt blocks.

Block 1

Adore quilt block 1 ins made up of flying geese, a center square, and corner squares.

Block 2

Adore quilt block 2 is made with square and rectangles in alternating greens.

Block 3

Adore quilt block 3 is made with a center block and flying geese star points.

Block 4

Quilt block 4 is a 16 patch block set off by the star points.

Tips for Moda Stitch Pink 2023 Quilt

Here are a few tips to help you get more accurate blocks.

1. Read the pattern through a couple times before starting. I made a couple cutting errors, but fortunately was able to work with what I had. I did run out of one of the colors to do it exactly like the pattern, so I substituted a different print.
2. Starch – There is enough fabric to starch in the kit. I find spray starching all of my pieces before cutting helps me have more accurate piecing throughout the quilt making process. There is also much less fraying of the fabric.
3. Take your time to make sure you are trimming the half square triangles down to the accurate size.
4. Use pins to line up seams that intersect before piecing the block together.
5. Don’t worry if there are small discrepancies in the final block size. The sashing between the blocks will help minimize those errors.
