I’m so excited to share my latest project with you – a Swoon Baby Quilt that I made as a baby shower gift for a lovely couple who have a unique love story. They met during flight school, and I thought it would be perfect to incorporate this special detail into the quilt design.

Fabric Selection
For the background print, I chose a charming grey airplane fabric, paying homage to the parents-to-be aviation beginnings. Since the baby’s gender will be a surprise, I wanted to keep the quilt gender-neutral while still adding a whimsical touch. I found a delightful green fabric with little arrows and swirls that adds a playful element to the quilt. To complement the green, I selected a cheerful yellow tone-on-tone print, creating a bright and happy vibe.
To pull all these fabrics together, I discovered a white fabric adorned with yellow stars and green x’s, which seamlessly ties the quilt’s color scheme together. For the backing and binding, I used the same whimsical green print to create a cohesive look. The final quilt has an almost sunflower appearance that I just love.
Swoon Baby Quilt Finishing
Adding a personal touch, I included a cute little label from Sweetwater Label Club on the back. This quilt was finished with the Curly Edge-2-Edge pantograph by My Creative Stitches, giving it a delightful texture and a professional finish. The final quilt measures 42″ square.
Fabric Scraps – Making a Coordinating Gift
With the leftover fabrics, I made a fabric bin that matches the quilt using the Olivia’s Baskets pattern by Knot + Thread Design. I had enough to make the 9″ medium-sized basket, which was perfect for holding the quilt for gifting and can be used in the baby’s nursery for cute storage. It’s such a versatile and practical addition!
I used the cutoff triangles from the Swoon quilt pattern to make several half square triangle units. I then did a little bit of math to figure out how many I would need to get the same size piece as was needed for the body of the basket pattern. Next, I laid out the half square triangle units to get a layout that I liked and stitched them together.
After I had my pieced fabric for the body of the basket, I was able to continue on as the Olivia’s Baskets pattern instructed and made the final cute little fabric basket that coordinated perfectly with the quilt.
Gifting the Swoon Quilt
To finish off the gift giving, I rolled the quilt up to fit inside the basket, dropped it into a gift bag from the Dollar Tree and added a card!
Tips for the Swoon Baby Quilt
I have one major tip for making this quick and easy baby quilt. Mark your cut pieces! I made a couple errors when piecing my units since some of the cut pieces are very similar in size for the sew and flip corners on the yellow fabrics in my quilt. Fortunately, it was an easy fix for me when I realized things weren’t lining up how they were supposed to. So learn from my mistake and mark your cut fabrics with something like Alphabitties to keep track of which pieces go where.
Final Thoughts
The Swoon pattern by Thimble Blossoms has always been a favorite of mine, and it was such a joy to use it for this special quilt. It’s super easy to do and comes together quickly for a weekend project. With large fabric pieces to make the single large star pattern, it is beginner-friendly and a great choice for quilters of all skill levels.
I hope you love this sweet Swoon Baby Quilt as much as I do and will make one for yourself or that special little one in your life.
Happy Quilting!
