Designer Mystery Month 7

Sharing is caring!

It’s time the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery month 7 block.  Each month, participants receive a package of fabric and a quilt pattern for the block of the month from Fat Quarter Shop.  Each month’s block is designed by a different quilter in the industry.  This month is the Orchid block designed by Barbara Groves. Barbara is one of the sisters behind the design duo of Me and My Sister Designs.

This year’s Designer Mystery quilt features the Sunnyside fabric collection by Camille Roskelley. The fabric collection is so pretty and coordinates well with several other recent collections by Camille.

Designer Mystery Month 7 – The Orchid Block

A 12 inch quilt block designed by Barbara Groves. The block is the Orchid block from month 7 of Designer Mystery. It is shown in white, pink, navy, and sage green fabrics.

Extra Quilt Blocks

The amount of extra fabric is always generous from Fat Quarter Shop and their kits. The dedicated Designer Mystery Facebook page has cutting instructions for a 6″ and 3″ block as well. So far I’ve been able to make both of the extra sizes and STILL have extra fabric every month. I’m keeping the extras in hopes of using it to make finished projects with the smaller block sizes. I love making the 3″ quilt blocks. Most of them come together way better than I expected considering the tiny pieces and all of the seams.

The finishing kit for the large quilt includes all of the fabric needed for the setting blocks and sashing for the quilt. It comes in a special box that is great for storing your blocks in from month to month. I have finished making most of the pieces for the setting of this quilt but am going to wait until the end to assemble everything just for ease of storage of the blocks. The box holds the 12″ quilt blocks so well and I don’t have to fold them up to store them like I would if I put the sashing around them for the finishing.

I hope you enjoy seeing my Designer Mystery month 7 blocks. Fat Quarter Shop sells previous year’s Designer Mystery patterns on their website. I’ve participated in Designer Mystery for several years now and have loved every one. The 2024 Designer Mystery Quilt Along is available now to reserve. The quilt along will begin in June 2024. The quilt blocks, the finishing kit, and the backing set are all sold separately but can be reserved now!

I hope you join me next year in the Designer Mystery Quilt Along!
