Moda Blockheads 5 Group 2, Block 2 is the All Star block designed by Lisa Bongean. Lisa is the powerhouse behind Primitive Gatherings. She is a fabric designer, store owner, quilt retreat center hostess, and has a thriving YouTube channel. I’ve been lucky enough to visit her quilt shop and it’s an amazing treat if you have the opportunity.
Download the PDF Pattern for Blockheads 5 Group 2 Block 2 HereThe quilt block patterns for the Moda Blockheads 5 quilt along are completely free and Moda offers the patterns in 2 different block sizes: 12 inch and 6 inch. For this quilt along I am using Songbook fabrics by Fancy That Design House and am making the 12 inch quilt blocks.
Moda Blockheads 5.2 Block 2 Assembly
The All Star block is chock full of half square triangles. It has 4 nine patches that are sewn together to make the final block. Each of the nine patches has 8 half square triangle units. This block is their perfect time to use Half Square Triangle Paper. I use the Triangles on a Roll from Fat Quarter Shop. For the 12 inch block I used the 2 inch finished Triangles on a Roll.

All Star Quilt Block
This All Star quilt block came together so quickly using Triangles on a Roll. Since you start with a slightly oversized piece of fabric, and you trim on the lines of the paper after sewing, you get to skip trimming each individual block down to size. I really dislike trimming, so this is a win for me!
Moda Blockheads 5 Progress
I am so happy with how my blocks look in the Songbook collection by Fancy That Design House. So far I have kept my blocks from the first group until the end of Moda Blockheads 5 so that I can decide if I’d like to make 1 large project or a couple smaller ones.
If you haven’t had a chance to sew the free quilt blocks from the Moda Blockheads 5 quilt along, jump right in with the second group of blocks! New blocks are released on the Moda blog on Wednesdays.
