Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along – Block 9: Windflower
We’re down to the final two blocks in the Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop, and Block 9 brings another fun challenge! The Windflower block is a beautiful mix of shapes and symmetry, and it really starts to pull all the sampler elements together.

About the Windflower Block
You’ll find the Windflower block on page 74 of the Jolly Bar Book Vol. 5. It finishes at 16.5 inches square and uses five Jolly Bar rectangles along with background fabric.
This block combines half square triangles, squares, and rectangles to create a soft, petal-like effect radiating from the center. The combination of block types adds variety and texture while keeping the piecing process engaging.

My Fabric Choices
For the Windflower block, I selected five prints from the Berry & Pine collection by Lella Boutique. As with previous blocks, I focused on balancing reds, darker greens, lighter greens, and low volume prints to create contrast between the different patchwork elements while keeping the palette cohesive with the rest of the quilt.
I paired everything with the Christmas Magic Dot background fabric, which continues to tie all of the blocks together beautifully.
The combination of patchwork units in this block kept things interesting as I worked my way through it. I laid out all my pieces before sewing to get the placement just right, and it was so satisfying to see the final shape come together.

One More to Go!
That’s Block 9 of the Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along complete! Windflower adds just the right amount of movement and softness to the quilt top. I can’t believe we’re heading into the final block already—see you back here soon for the big finish with Block 10!
