Sharing is caring!

The Sparkle Star quilt blocks are the final paper pieced blocks for the Petit Four Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop. For this quilt along I am using scrap fabrics from the Beautiful Day fabric collection by Corey Yoder.

Petit Four Quilt Along

The Petit Four quilt along is being hosted by Fat Quarter Shop to showcase their new 4 inch foundation paper pads. The pads come in a collection of the following quilt blocks

  1. Courthouse Steps Quilt Blocks
  2. Economy Quilt Blocks
  3. Log Cabin Quilt Blocks
  4. Pineapple Quilt Blocks
  5. Snail Trail Quilt Blocks
  6. Sparkle Star Quilt blocks

Each of the quilt blocks is only 4 inches finished, so the fabric pieces needed for each section are small. This makes it the perfect project for scraps in your fabric stash. The finished quilt is 32.5 inches square.

Fabric Selection

Since this is the final quilt block to be made for the quilt along I was able to pull out all of the scraps I had remaining and cut a variety of colored fabrics for the center of each Sparkle Star quilt block. I used the same white background fabric on the corners that gives the illusion of a star when the blocks are assembled together.

The Simplicity of the Sparkle Star Quilt Blocks

The Sparkle Star block is deceptively simple. With a main print in the center and a contrasting corner sewn at an angle, the blocks appear to just be angular squares. The magic happens when the blocks are assembled and secondary star pattern emerges at the intersections of the quilt blocks. These Sparkle Star blocks will be used on the back of the quilt in a grid of 5 blocks by 5 blocks. I was able to make the 25 blocks with a variety of the remaining fabrics.

Completed Petit Four Quilt Blocks

The Sparkle Star quilt blocks completes the blocks needed for the Petit Four Quilt Along. I really enjoyed making the small 4 inch quilt blocks. I kept the foundation paper attached to the back of the blocks to keep them crisp until I have all of the remaining quilt blocks made for the Petit Four Quilt Along. Next month I will share the finished quilt, but in the meantime here is a peek at all of the blocks!
