The Best Gifts for Quilters

Sharing is caring!

It’s holiday time and that’s the perfect time to break down my best gifts for quilters! Let’s start by saying I am a minimalist quilter when it comes to notions and tools. I stick with the basics because they work. But I need products that are work horses because I use them nearly every day. I save my dollars for more fabric and materials to make more quilt projects :).

Quilting Basics

These are the products that every quilter needs. Beginner quilters rejoice because here is the list of must haves. However don’t just skip by if your favorite quilter has been quilting for years! Many of these products need an upgrade or replaced occasionally because they work so hard for quilt making.

Rulers

I discussed my three must have rulers in a past blog post. And after years of use, they might need a refresh. Measurements wear off, edges get gouged with rotary cutters, etc. So here are my top three essentials

Three sizes of acrylic quilting rulers and three sizes of cutting mats.

Cutting Mat

Keep your rotary blades in good shape and your fabric cutting precise by regularly replacing your cutting mat. This is on my Christmas list this year because my mat is getting rough! I recommend the largest sized cutting mat you can get for your space.

Notions

There are a lot of notions that you use to get your quilt blocks just right. Here are my must haves!

Notions for quilters shown: foundation paper pads, Oliso iron, scissors, rotary blades, basic FPP tools, diagonal seam tape, Little House pins, magnetic pin holder, seam ripper, cone of thread.
  • Little House Pins – The perfect small and sharp pin to get your points lined up just right.
  • Magnetic Pin Cushion – Great for catching pins while you sew, and picking them up when you drop a few.
  • Rotary Blades – These are one of the biggest wear items in a sewing room. Sharp blades make for better quilts and less injuries!
  • Oliso Iron – I don’t think I could live without the automatic lift feature!
  • Seam Ripper – replace this regularly. You will thank me later.
  • Aurifil thread – save time and money by buying a cone of thread that will last you so much longer.
  • Scissors – a good pair of scissors makes my heart sing.
  • Diagonal Seam Tape – this is a must have for me. No more drawing lines for those diagonal seams.
  • Foundation Paper Starter Kit – this tool kit has everything you need to be successful with foundation papers
  • Foundation Papers – give your quilter the chance to try something new. Paper piecing opens up a whole new world to compliment traditional quilt piecing.

Quilting Organization Gifts

Organizing your quilting stash is just as important as having a stash. And with the new year approaching, now is the perfect time to get a jump start on your organization goals.

Art bin storage container, mesh project bags, acrylic storage drawer, over the door quilt rack
  • Acrylic Storage Box – I have 4 of these in my quilt studio go organize my cross stitch supplies. But it can also be used for thread storage, small notion organization, buttons and accessory storage.
  • Project Bags – These bags are invaluable for keeping projects together. Especially handwork projects like EPP.
  • Plastic Storage Totes – I use several of these totes to keep my scraps organized by size and colors.
  • Quilt Keeper – I don’t personally have this quilt hanger yet, but it’s on my wish list to display some of my finished quilts!

Quilt Stash Building

It never hurts a quilters heart if you add to their fabric stash. Every quilter loves fabric!

Sew Sampler Box, Moonbeams Quilt Kit, various precut fabric bundles.
  • Precut fabric bundles – The perfect way to add to a stash is a precut bundle. Why chose one fabric when you can have a little bit of the whole collection?
  • Quilt kits – I especially love the upcoming charity quilt along with Fat Quarter Shop. You can’t beat a beautiful quilt kit and a community of quilters making it at the same time.
  • Sew Sampler Subscription – This has been my favorite subscription. Every month you receive a box with fabric and a pattern for a small project and several handy sewing notions. This is especially great for beginners to learn on small projects.

Quilting Stocking Stuffers

Good things come in small packages. These fun stocking stuffers are sure to delight the quilter in your life.

Best Stocking Stuffers for Quilters: Quilt Coasters, Stash 'n Store, Quilt Gift Certificate, Quilter's Clapper, Alphabitties
  • Quilting Coaster Set – add some color and charm to your table with these quilt themed coasters
  • Gift Cards – not sure what your quilter needs? You can never go wrong with a gift card so they can pick out just the right thing!
  • Stash ‘n Store – keep notions handy with these cute little holders
  • Quilter’s Clapper – flat seams are made easier with these wooden clappers.
  • Alphabitties – Organize cut pieces while sewing blocks with these small plastic letters.

I hope this list of best gifts for quilters helps you find the perfect gift for the quilter in your life this year. Merry Christmas!
