The Abundance Quilt Block
This cute basket block is a classic. Basket blocks bring such a touch of nostalgia to a quilt and with the summery feel of the fabrics, the quilt along stays on theme with its country cottage feel. Using just the background fabric and three prints from the My Summer House fabric collection, the block is built in rows using various sew and flip corners on the prints to make the completed basket block.
Designer Mystery 2024 Month 6
This year’s Designer Mystery quilt along is super easy to assemble as you go. With the completion of block 6, I was able to attach the house pieces and add it to the second row of the quilt. I now have half the quilt completed with the accent flower blocks. By the assembling as I go, by time I get to month 12, I will be able to finish the quilt borders quickly and have the quilt ready to long arm into a finished quilt right away. In years past I have sewn each block a month and then had to assemble the entire final quilt at the end.
Tips for Month 6’s Block
Keep your corners crisp: With so many sew and flip corners, it’s important to be precise with stitching from corner to corner with a straight line and pressing carefully since the seams will be on the bias.
Work with Precision: The square in a square block in the top row can be tricky with 4 bias seams. Keeping your stitching on a true diagonal will help keep the unit squared up nicely.
