100 Acre Wood Quilt – The Finished Quilt Top

Sharing is caring!

After months of stitching, piecing, and planning, I’ve officially finished both of my quilts from the 100 Acre Wood quilt along! These two Winnie the Pooh quilts are full of storybook charm, character blocks, and heartfelt details, and I’m so excited to share how the final quilt tops came together.

Assembling the Final Layout of the 100 Acre Wood Quilt

Before piecing the final quilt tops, I went back and added all of the embroidery details to each block. That included things like balloon strings, whiskers, curly tails, and the word “Hunny” on several pots. I saved a few of the bee flight trails for last, since some of them needed to be stitched after the blocks were sewn together—they crossed over block seams and needed the full layout to be in place. I embroidered the details using Aurifloss color 2630 and the Lori Holt embroidery needles. These needles were FANTASTIC for this task.

With all the blocks complete and embroidery done, I added in the cloud blocks and bee blocks, plus all the filler pieces to bring the layout together. Both quilts followed the same basic structure, but I made different finishing decisions with sizing for each one.

The Lighter Blue Version – Queen-Size Alternative

For the quilt with the lighter blue background fabric, I chose to make the larger alternative version of the pattern. This quilt finished at 90″ x 90″, making it a great option for a bed-sized Pooh quilt. The alternative layout uses larger filler blocks and a wider border to achieve the extra size, and I love how spacious it feels with the characters evenly spread out across the top.

I haven’t quilted this one yet—my original wide back fabric isn’t quite large enough for the expanded layout, so I’m setting it aside until the right backing comes along. I’m planning to wait for the Winnie the Pooh fabric collection by Echo Park, which is scheduled to release in November 2025. There’s an all-over map print in that line that I think will be perfect for this quilt.

The Darker Blue Version – Original 70″ x 70″ Layout

My second quilt was made with a darker blue background and follows the original 70″ x 70″ layout. This size feels just right for a large throw or wall quilt, and I’m planning to finish it with a soft and cozy Minky back. I’ll be using the upcoming Classic Winnie collection by WA Dodge of Studio E Fabrics, which features a map print on Minky that’s ideal for this quilt. This collection also releases in November 2025, so I will be able to finish both quilts at once before the end of the year.

Since this quilt is slightly smaller, it’s going to be much easier to long arm—once the fabric is released, I’ll be ready to quilt it up!

Final Thoughts

The 100 Acre Wood quilt along has been such a joy to participate in. Each block brought one of my favorite childhood characters to life, and making two quilts at once allowed me to explore different layouts, sizes, and fabric combinations. Both of these Winnie the Pooh quilts feel incredibly special, and I know they’ll be treasured for years to come.

Now that the quilt tops are finished, I’ll be anxiously waiting for the backing fabrics arrive. I’ll be ready in November to give these quilts the final stitches they deserve.

  1. I am doing the embellishment on the Winnie the Pooh quilt for someone. How many strands of aurilfill floss is recommended?

    1. I used the full 6 strands. I’m pretty sure that is what John from Art East did as well. It gives it a nice puffy detail. 🙂
