Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along – Block 2: Holly Berry
It’s time for Block 2 in the Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop, and today I’m sharing the Holly Berryblock! This week’s block is extra fun because you’ll actually be making four of them—a great opportunity to showcase more of your favorite prints from your Jolly Bars.

About the Holly Berry Block
You’ll find the Holly Berry block instructions in the Jolly Bar Book Vol. 5, and each one finishes at 13.5 inches square. These blocks are arranged in the final quilt with sashing between them to form a larger visual unit.
To complete all four blocks, you’ll need 16 Jolly Bar rectangles and your background fabric. The block is made using a mix of half square triangles and traditional block piecing, with a center square and “petals” fanning out from each corner. Once assembled, the four blocks together look like a bold floral design—perfectly named for the season!

My Fabric Choices
For the Holly Berry blocks, I selected a variety of prints from the Berry & Pine collection by Lella Boutique. I made sure to include a mix of reds, darker greens, and lighter greens in each block to create a balanced and cohesive look.
The goal was to give each mini block its own personality while still tying everything together through color placement. My background fabric, the Christmas Magic Dot, provides a festive but subtle backdrop for these bold shapes.

This block was a bit more involved in terms of piecing, but the layout came together beautifully. I used a consistent pressing plan to help the seams nest when joining the four blocks together later with sashing.

A Festive Floral Favorite
That wraps up Block 2 of the Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along, and I’m loving how the Holly Berry blocks add a floral, almost wreath-like touch to the sampler. Four blocks may sound like a lot—but with such fun fabrics and easy piecing, it was a joy to put together.
Check back in two weeks for Block 3! And don’t forget to tag me and Fat Quarter Shop on social media to share your progress!
