Strippy Spools Jelly Roll Quilt Finish – A Quilt Along Project

Sharing is caring!

After weeks of sharing block progress on social media, I’m excited to finally reveal my finished Strippy Spools jelly roll quilt! This cheerful project was part of the Strippy Spools Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop, using the new pattern from It’s Sew Emma. It’s a clever design that combines spool blocks with bobbin stacks, and it’s perfect for showing off a favorite jelly roll—or scraps.

I used a jelly roll from the Cali & Co collection by Corey Yoder, paired with Bella Solid in Carnation for the spools and Magic Dot by Lella Boutique as my background fabric. I loved watching how these soft, summery tones came together block by block—and now all stitched into one finished top, it makes me smile every time I see it.

The full quilt layout really lets the design shine—each spool and bobbin set feels like its own little feature moment. I chose a layout that kept the balance of colors across the quilt, but you could easily go scrappy and random with this pattern too.

Here’s another view that shows off the texture a little better—the light caught the quilting just right. I love how the quilting gives the whole thing movement without distracting from the block shapes.

For the quilting, I used Orange Dream by Longarm League. It’s a soft, rounded pantograph that adds a lovely flow across the entire quilt top. It works beautifully with the square corners of the bobbins and spools without competing with them.

Strippy Spools Quilt – Backing

Cali & Co floral fabric used as the quilt back for the Strippy Spools quilt.

For the back, I chose a small-scale floral from the Cali & Co collection. It coordinates perfectly and adds an extra dose of color when the quilt is flipped over or draped across a couch or bed.

And here’s the label I added to the back to finish things off. I always try to label my quilts—it’s a small step that adds a personal touch and makes it feel truly complete. Sweetwater Labels are my go to!

Final Thoughts

The Strippy Spools jelly roll quilt pattern is a fun and creative way to use up jelly rolls or your favorite fabric scraps. It’s beginner-friendly but visually striking, and the alternating bobbin/spool design adds charm without being overly complicated.

I’ve loved sewing along with the Fat Quarter Shop and seeing how other quilters interpreted this pattern with different fabric collections. If you’re considering making this quilt, I highly recommend it—especially if you’re ready for a fresh take on classic piecing.
