Shine Bright Quilt Along Finish: Two Quilts, One Kit, and Lots of Leftovers

Sharing is caring!

I’m so excited to finally share my finished Shine Bright quilt along finish—one of my favorite quilt along projects to date! This year-long quilt along was hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and is a fresh recoloring of the classic Shine On quilt, originally designed by Bonnie and Camille in their book The Bonnie & Camille Quilt Bee. The updated version uses the cheerful Lighthearted fabric collection by Camille Roskelley, and I loved every moment spent sewing it.

A Shine Bright Quilt Journey: 29 Blocks of Joy

The Shine Bright quilt is a sampler-style design made up of 29 different quilt blocks. I worked through each block over the course of a year as part of the quilt along. While I’m sharing this a bit later than planned, I actually completed the final quilt right on schedule—definitely a highlight in my quilting year!

Why I Love Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Kits

I purchased the quilt kit and coordinating backing kit from Fat Quarter Shop at the start of the quilt along. One of the standout features of their kits is the generous amount of fabric included. Not only did it make the sewing process stress-free, but it also gave me a pleasant surprise later on.

Leftover Shine Bright quilt fabrics stacked next to the Brightly quilt pattern for a future scrap project.

Even after completing two full quilts, I still have leftover fabric from the original kit—more than enough to dive into scrap projects! I plan to star with the Brightly quilt pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew. I hope to have enough to make a king sized quilt!

One Shine Bright Quilt Kit, Two Finished Quilts

Because the fabric cuts in the kit were so generous, I was able to make a second Shine Bright quilt with just a few extra yards of background fabric. I gifted the second quilt to a close friend for Christmas, which made this project feel even more special.

Longarm Quilting with Flowers Rise Again

For the quilting on the first, I chose the Flowers Rise Again pantograph by My Creative Stitches. It’s a design I return to again and again for its soft floral feel and all-over texture. I think it complements the blocks in the Shine Bright quilt perfectly without distracting from the piecing.

For the second quilt I made as a gift I used the Dogwood Bouquet pantograph from Anne Bright designs. Both designs really go well with this beautiful quilt.

Perfect for Beginners, Too

If you’re a newer quilter or nervous about precision cutting, Fat Quarter Shop’s kits are beginner-friendly thanks to the extra fabric included. It takes so much pressure off knowing there’s wiggle room if you mis-cut or want to fussy cut certain prints.

Wrapping Up the Shine Bright Quilt Along

Finishing the Shine Bright quilt was such a rewarding moment. It brought together everything I love about quilt alongs—gorgeous fabric, community support, and the slow satisfaction of building something block by block. I’m so happy with how both quilts turned out and can’t wait to see where the leftover scraps take me next!
