Twilight Stars Quilt Along November – Primitive Gatherings

Sharing is caring!

Today I’m going to share my progress on the Twilight Stars quilt along for November. The weekly schedule of this quilt along was getting to be a little difficult for me to make and post updates each week on my blocks. So instead I have switched to a monthly schedule of posting my progress for this quilt along. At the end of each month, I will share the 8-10 quilt blocks I’ve made throughout the month. We are almost half way through this quilt along with Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings. The last Friday in November brings us to week 24 and 48 blocks completed.

Previous Quilt Blocks

Each week, two numbers are chosen from the Triangle Gatherings quilt book. Two blocks a week is a doable task for this quilt along. So far I have been able to get my blocks done on time.

Quilt Along Supplies

This quilt along only requires a few supplies. First is the Triangle Gatherings quilt book. This book has 100 different layout ideas using just half square triangles. You will also need half square triangle papers in the size that you need based on the quilt block size you choose to do. On Lisa Bongean’s blog, you will find instructions for 4″, 6″, 8″ or 12″ blocks. I am making the 6″ block size.

I am also using the Flying Geese foundation papers from Fat Quarter Shop to make the surrounding flying geese. This is totally a personal choice. There are many ways to make flying geese and you can use whatever method you choose. I just find the accuracy of the papers to be so easy.

The fabrics I’m using are a Bella solid white and a Free Spirit bright colors fat quarter bundle that I had in my stash.

Twilight Stars Quilt Blocks 37 and 84

For week 21, the block numbers are 37 and 84. I am continuing to make my block centers in quadrants instead of rows of 4. This has helped with my accuracy a little bit. It’s not perfect every time, but it is better overall. Another trick I figured out was to decrease the pressure of my presser foot. My Juki sewing machine has a knob on the top that you can turn and it will make it so the presser foot has less pressure. This has stopped my two pieces from shifting away from each other when it first enters underneath the foot.
