Today I’m going to share my progress on the Twilight Stars quilt along for October. The weekly schedule of this quilt along was getting to be a little difficult for me to make and post updates each week on my blocks. So instead I have switched to a monthly schedule of posting my progress for this quilt along. At the end of each month, I will share the 8-10 quilt blocks I’ve made throughout the month. We are almost half way through this quilt along with Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings. The last Friday in October brings us to week 20 and 40 blocks completed.

Previous Quilt Blocks
Each week, two numbers are chosen from the Triangle Gatherings quilt book. Two blocks a week is a doable task for this quilt along. So far I have been able to get my blocks done on time.
Week 16: Twilight Stars Quilt Along
Quilt Along Supplies
This quilt along only requires a few supplies. First is the Triangle Gatherings quilt book. This book has 100 different layout ideas using just half square triangles. You will also need half square triangle papers in the size that you need based on the quilt block size you choose to do. On Lisa Bongean’s blog, you will find instructions for 4″, 6″, 8″ or 12″ blocks. I am making the 6″ block size.
I am also using the Flying Geese foundation papers from Fat Quarter Shop to make the surrounding flying geese. This is totally a personal choice. There are many ways to make flying geese and you can use whatever method you choose. I just find the accuracy of the papers to be so easy.
The fabrics I’m using are a Bella solid white and a Free Spirit bright colors fat quarter bundle that I had in my stash.
Twilight Stars Quilt Blocks 55 and 59
For week 17, the block numbers are 55 and 59. It’s interesting to me how sometimes my points come together perfectly and other times I feel like it looks like a train wreck. I don’t do anything noticeably different from block to block, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out as well. One trick I have found that makes the block centers a little more accurate is to work in quadrants instead of rows. So instead of making 4 rows of 4 half square triangles, I stitch them into squares of 4 HSTs and then put those 4 quadrants together in the final block center. I have a lot less trouble getting my seams to match this way.
Twilight Stars Quilt Blocks 49 and 50
Week 18 brought us the block numbers of 49 and 50.
Twilight Stars Quilt Blocks 69 and 72
The week 19 blocks selected by Primitive Gatherings were numbers 69 and 72.
Twilight Stars Quilt Blocks 65 and 68
The final week of October had quilters making block numbers 65 and 68.
Twilight Stars QAL Progress
Here is a quick look at all 8 of the Twilight Stars Quilt Along October blocks. The rainbow of colors is just so pretty. I’m waiting until all of the blocks are complete to decide on a layout for the final quilt.
