The Safe Haven Quilt Block
Piecing Safe Haven was a true quilting joy. Each section built upon the last, and I loved how the block’s intricate design came together step by step. The half square triangles and flying geese units created a beautiful frame around the central star, adding depth and movement to the block.
Designer Mystery 2024 Month 9
This year’s Designer Mystery quilt along is super easy to assemble as you go. Once I added the house setting and stitched it into the quilt row, I could see how much this block contributes to the overall design. It adds so much visual interest and energy to the quilt! I now have 3/4 of the quilt complete!
Tips for Month 9’s Block
- Keep your flying geese units and half square triangles accurate for a sharp, clean border. Using trimming tools can help maintain precise sizing.
- Use a design wall or layout board to arrange all components before sewing to help visualize the radiating star and catch any orientation errors.
- Starch your fabric before cutting to help keep pieces crisp and reduce stretching.
