About the Somersaults Block
You’ll find the Somersaults block on page 62 of the Jolly Bar Book Vol. 5. It finishes at 16.5 inches square and uses four Jolly Bar rectangles and background fabric.
This block is constructed with half square triangles and square units, much like Block 3 (Northern Lights). However, the arrangement of the units is different, creating an entirely new effect. The layout gives this block a sense of motion—as if the prints are flipping and turning across the block, just like a somersault.

My Fabric Choices
For Somersaults, I pulled four prints from the Berry & Pine collection by Lella Boutique, choosing a variety that includes reds and greens mixed with the background print. The mix of values and tones helps each quadrant stand out while still blending well with the rest of my quilt blocks.

I continued using the Christmas Magic Dot background fabric, which keeps the overall look festive and cohesive from block to block.
I enjoyed the construction of this block—it’s a great reminder that even when using the same basic units, a new arrangement can give a completely different look. It’s that kind of creativity that makes sampler quilts so fun!

Turning Into the Final Stretch
That wraps up Block 6 of the Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along! The Jolly Bar 5 Quilt Along Somersaults Block is a playful addition to the sampler and a fun variation on a block we’ve already made. I’m loving how each block builds on the last while still feeling fresh.
See you in two weeks for Block 7!
