This week on the Spring Mystery Quilt Along with Laundry Basket Quilts is the most challenging one for me so far. It is English Paper Piecing (EPP).

All of the information for the week’s block is posted on the Laundry Basket Quilts blog on Wednesdays. There is an accompanying YouTube video that is very helpful.
I have a blog post explaining how to do basic English Paper Piecing here.
Here are the basic steps to English Paper Piecing.
- Cutting out hexagons using a template so they are larger than your paper pieces.
2. Lightly glueing the seam allowance down around the paper templates so you have a finished edge along the outside of the hexagons.
3. Sewing a small whip stitch along the edges of two hexagons to join them.
4. Continue attaching more hexagons to each other until you have a flower or the desired shape.
I’m not a stranger to EPP, but hand work can be difficult for my hands to do for very long when pushing and pulling the needle through the layers of fabric. It will probably take me a little bit to get all 12 of the Grandma’s Flower Garden blocks done, but I will keep working on them a little bit at a time. I have 4 of them done so far.
There are just a few more weeks for this quilt along! Can’t wait to see what next week holds!
