It’s time for my reveal of the Piece and Quilt Sampler month 3 quilt along. I love quilt alongs and those hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop are irresistible. When I first saw this project, I jumped at the chance to join to use up some of the fabrics I already had in my stash. The Piece and Quilt Sampler is the cover quilt from Celebrate with Quilts by Lissa Alexander and Susan Ache. Published by It’s Sew Emma, the Fat Quarter Shop’s publishing arm, this book is an asset for any quilter. The book contains patterns for 60 different quilt blocks with instructions for making each one in 4 different sizes. It is the perfect reference manual for any quilter. It also contains 13 quilt patterns.

Celebrate with Quilts Book
The Celebrate with Quilts is a brand new book by Lissa Alexander and Susan Ache. Each of the 60 quilt block patterns have cutting instructions for 3 inch, 6 inch, 9 inch, and 12 inch finished quilt blocks. The assembly instructions for each block are so easy to follow either by the text or by the step-by-step pictures. I love a well written pattern, and I know if it’s done by It’s Sew Emma and Fat Quarter Shop, it’s going to be great.
Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt
Last month I wrote a whole post about how I planned out the fabric placement for this quilt along. You can read more about that here: Piece and Quilt Sampler Month 1
Here is a Quick Look at what I came up with for my fabric placement using Electric Quilt 8 to help me.

Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along – Month 3
The third month of the quilt along features three quilt blocks from the Celebrate with Quilts book. The blocks made this month were as follows:
- 9 – 6″ Eight Point Star
- 6 – 6″ Wagon Tracks
- 1 – 9″ Tulip Lady Fingers
Using my Electric Quilt layout as a guide, I made the quilt blocks in the fabrics I already chose.
The Eight Point Star Quilt Blocks
The 9 Eight Point Star Quilt Blocks that were needed for the quilt used flying geese units and alternating color placement on the wings to give the blocks a unique look. These quilt blocks are spread throughout the quilt. I made some of the blocks with a darker background and some with a lighter background fabric to give the final quilt some variety.
Wagon Tracks
The Wagon Tracks blocks are found in two larger blocks in the final quilt. 4 of them were sewn together to create a larger block with a chain of the green squares running through it. The other two will be pieced with two solid fabric blocks to give another large block. I am waiting until the end of the quilt construction to see what fabric will look best for that. Similar to many of the other blocks in this quilt, these blocks only use basic quilting techniques. The Wagon Tracks are made with four patch units (made with strip piecing) and half square triangle units.
Tulip Lady Fingers
The final block for month 3 of the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along is one Tulip Lady Fingers block. I really love the delicate look of this block. I think an entire quilt made up of this block would look stunning. It is made up of just squares and half square triangle units.
Celebrate with Quilts
I want to take the time again to say that the Celebrate with Quilts book is an invaluable resource to any quilter. The different sized quilt blocks makes it easy to use any block as a substitute in a pattern where you want to mix things up. The Piece and Quilt sampler is also the perfect pattern for a scrap busting quilt project. It makes great use of the low volumes in a collection that can be hard to use.
Join me next month for more Piece and Quilt Sampler quilt blocks.
Happy Quilting!
