The Hugs & Kisses Quilt Block
This block was a great opportunity to see how much fabric and color placement really makes a block sing. The contrast between the center and outer blocks helped create the star effect, and the My Summer House fabrics brought everything together beautifully. I really enjoyed seeing how the simple square-in-a-square units transformed into such a complex-looking design.
Designer Mystery 2024 Month 10
This year’s Designer Mystery quilt along is super easy to assemble as you go. After piecing it into the house setting, it’s ready to go into the final row of the quilt. The star center and soft colors added a sense of harmony that complements the other blocks so well.
Tips for Month 10’s Block
- Spend a little extra time with fabric placement to make sure your striped fabrics are oriented the correct way in the final square in a square blocks.
- Use a scant ¼” seam when piecing square-in-a-square units to avoid shrinking the block with the added bulk.
- Consistent trimming of units ensures the nine-patch layout stays square and aligns well during final assembly.
