The Owl quilt block is the fourth block in the 100 Acre Wood Quilt Along, and it’s full of vintage charm! This block features Owl perched on a branch next to two stacked hunny pots, bringing a classic storybook feel to the quilt. While the piecing has some intricate details, Art East Quilting Co.’s pattern makes it easy to assemble. I’ll be adding embroidery details later, including Owl’s glasses perched on his nose, which will give him even more character.

About the 100 Acre Wood Quilt Along
The 100 Acre Wood quilt along is a beautifully designed project featuring adorable pieced blocks that bring Winnie the Pooh and his friends to life. The quilt kit I’m using was purchased through Art East Quilting Co., but Riley Blake also offers kits through various quilt shops, including Fat Quarter Shop. The finished quilt measures 70” x 70”, though Art East is also releasing an alternative pattern for those who want to upsize their quilt to a queen-size version with additional background fabric.
One of the things I love about this quilt kit is that it’s generously cut, leaving extra fabric for each block. I decided to take advantage of this by purchasing an extra background fabric in a slightly darker shade called “Bear Lake” and cutting two sets of blocks each month. This will allow me to make two finished 100 Acre Wood quilts, making great use of the provided fabric while minimizing leftover scraps.

Month 4: Owl Quilt Block
This month’s Owl quilt block is such a fun addition to the 100 Acre Wood quilt. Owl is perched on a sturdy branch, looking as wise as ever, with two stacked hunny pots beside him. The color choices in this block add so much depth, especially with the neutral and warm tones that make up Owl’s feathers. I loved working with these fabric combinations!
Though Owl’s design includes many small pieces, I was impressed by how smoothly the block came together thanks to the well-written pattern. The careful layout makes sure all of his features, including his wings and expressive face, are clear and distinct. The hunny pots add a playful touch, making this block a great balance between structure and whimsy.
Embroidery Details
Throughout the 100 Acre Wood quilt, there are small embroidery details that bring the quilt to life. Like the other blocks in this quilt, the Owl quilt block will have a bit of embroidery to add extra charm. The most important embroidered detail for this block will be Owl’s glasses, which will sit on his nose. I love how just a simple touch of embroidery can bring so much character to a quilt block! The two hunny pots will also get a touch of embroidery on their labels. My current plan is to add all of my embroidery details at the end to the blocks before I assemble the top.
Looking Ahead
I really enjoyed piecing the Owl quilt block this month! The combination of detailed fabric placement and future embroidery makes this block a standout in the 100 Acre Wood quilt. Each block in this quilt along is bringing the characters to life in such a fun way, and I can’t wait to see them all together in the finished quilt.
