The quilting along continues with Designer Mystery 2024 Month 7 with Fat Quarter Shop, and this month’s block might be my favorite yet! Designed by Jackie MacDonald of Sweetfire Road, the block is called Garden & Grace. This charming watering can block features a delicate pinwheel detail on the side of the can, which adds such a sweet, whimsical touch. I’m still using the cheerful My Summer House fabric collection, and I’m continuing to piece my rows as I go so that the quilt top is mostly assembled by the end of the quilt-along.

The Garden & Grace Quilt Block
Assembling the Garden & Grace block was a fun challenge. At first, it seemed like some seams weren’t going to line up properly, especially when piecing the final sections together. But I trusted the process—and the magic of seam allowances!—and everything lined up perfectly in the end. It was a great reminder to have faith in the pattern.
Designer Mystery 2024 Month 7
This year’s Designer Mystery quilt along is super easy to assemble as you go. I added the house elements to this block and continued piecing it in preparation for the next row of the overall quilt layout. Seeing each block in its final house setting has made the quilt feel more real and complete with every passing month.
Tips for Month 7’s Block
- Don’t worry if the seams seem misaligned as you assemble the final pieces—trust the seam allowances. Once sewn, everything lines up beautifully.
- Double-check the pinwheel placement on the watering can to ensure it spins in the intended direction.
- Consider pressing seams open or in opposing directions at key joins to reduce bulk around the watering can spout.
