Piece and Quilt Sampler Finished Quilt

Sharing is caring!

After nine months of piecing and pressing, trimming and arranging—I’m ready to share my  Piece and Quilt Sampler finished quilt! 🎉 This quilt has been such a joy to work on, and I’m excited to share how it all came together in the end.

This quilt along, hosted by Fat Quarter Shop, was built around blocks from the Celebrate with Quilts book by Lissa Alexander and Susan Ache. Over the course of the project, I made 63 unique quilt blocks, each one with its own size, style, and charm. The variety kept things fresh month after month, and the mix of techniques made it a great opportunity to stretch my quilting skills while working from my fabric stash.

For my fabric, I used the Dwell collection by Camille Roskelley, which brought a soft, classic palette to every block. The blues, pinks, and florals created a cohesive and beautiful base for the sampler design.

Final Quilt Assembly

The original quilt pattern called for three borders: a narrow white border, a half square triangle (HST) border, and a wide print outer border. After laying out my blocks and testing a few options, I decided to skip the HST border. While it was a fun idea, it felt like too much visual competition with all the block variety already in the quilt. Instead, I went with a bold floral border in pink, pulled from Camille’s Lighthearted collection. It perfectly complemented the pinks already present in the Dwell prints and added a vibrant frame without overwhelming the quilt.

I kept the inner white border from the pattern for a clean break between the blocks and the floral frame, and I love the balance it created.

Finishing Touches

For the backing, I chose a coordinating blue and green floral print from Camille’s Shoreline collection. It has a very similar feel to the floral border on the front, which helped tie everything together beautifully from front to back.

The binding was the final detail, and I went with a sweet light blue and white stripe, also from Shoreline. It’s subtle but frames the quilt just enough to finish everything off neatly.

The quilt was longarm quilted using the “Refract” pantograph by Longarm League. I love the gentle movement it gives across the quilt top—just enough texture without taking away from all the block details.

Final Thoughts

I’m so proud of how the Piece and Quilt Sampler finished quilt came together! From choosing fabrics to skipping a border that didn’t feel right, this quilt became a reflection of my personal quilting style. The mix of soft colors, classic prints, and balanced layout makes it a quilt I’ll treasure for years to come.

If you’ve been following along during this quilt along—thank you! It’s been so much fun to share my progress month by month. And if you’re considering starting your own sampler with the Celebrate with Quilts book, I highly recommend it. With flexible block sizes, thoughtful patterns, and lots of room for personalization, it’s a fantastic way to create a quilt that’s truly your own.
