This week on the Spring Mystery Quilt Along with Laundry Basket Quilts is the most challenging one for me so far. It is English Paper Piecing (EPP).

All of the information for the week’s block is posted on the Laundry Basket Quilts blog on Wednesdays. There is an accompanying YouTube video that is very helpful.
It’s the final week! And that meant appliqué and putting it all together. The instructions for this week’s block included a printable diagram to help with placement for the appliqué shapes.
Helpful Appliqué Tips
The YouTube video from Edyta Sitar was also so helpful for these final steps
My thoughts…
I’m going to be very honest here. I knew going into this quilt along that it was going to be a challenge for me. I am not a big fan of English Paper Piecing just because it’s tough for my hands to do. I also knew the appliqué wouldn’t be my idea of fun. I love the way both of these techniques look, but I just don’t enjoy doing them. But I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone when I decided to do this quilt along. I purchased the precut fusible appliqué shapes from Laundry Basket Quilts, which was very helpful. But sewing them all down was a CHORE. And one I didn’t enjoy it much. By the end, the stems and leaves weren’t too bad, but the circles… Yeah. No. Not good, look terrible, and at that point I was just hoping that the long arming and standing back, no-one will notice the atrocity that is my circle appliqué. But that’s okay!!! I know going forward, I will either find an alternative or pick another of the thousands and thousands of quilt projects out there.
With that said, the quilt design is gorgeous. It will make a nice decor piece for my home.
Thank you to Edyta Sitar for the Spring Mystery Quilt Along with Laundry Basket Quilts. It is a very pretty garden full of quilted blooms.
